Product Description

"I do hypers before and after I squat or deadlift." - Louie Simmons

The Scout Hyper is a patented, foldable reverse-hyper machine developed by powerlifting legend Louie Simmons and Westside Barbell. This uniquely lightweight and mobile design features hinging legs that lock into place with pop pins and easily fold back for efficient storage after use (the total depth of the unit, when folded, is just 13”).

Louie Simmons created this model with home, work, and light clinical use in mind—with particular benefits for younger athletes or those new to reverse hyper training. The unit comes standard with a durable, round-edge pad (27.5” wide x 21.5” deep x 2” thick) to limit friction against the hips, as well as a nylon webbing hyper strap, two weight posts (5.25” loadable length), a set of spring collars, and 6” long handles. A bolt-on handle extension kit is also available a la carte for users who need to accommodate a shorter distance from the end of the pad to the handles.

The Scout Hyper comes with rubber feet (to provide grip to the floor and help keep the unit level) and a rubber-covered step for safe mounting and dismounting. When a workout is complete, the user simply has to (1) pull out and spin the pop pins to unlock the unit, (2) tip the machine up while pushing on the horizontal rear leg crossmember, and (3) press down on the handles to complete the folding process. Please Note: The unit stands up by itself when folded, but we do recommend either storing it flat on the ground or if storing it upright, doing so against a wall and out of the reach of children.

KEY FEATURES OF THE SCOUT HYPER

PATENTED FOLDABLE DESIGN
1

PATENTED FOLDABLE DESIGN

Whether you train in a small garage gym or a large-scale facility, space efficiency always counts. The Westside Scout Hyper offers storage convenience with its patented groove folding mechanism, collapsing down to a depth of just 13” when stowed. It’s also considerably lighter and more portable than most traditional Reverse Hyper machines, making it easy to move, unfold, and lock-in before each use.

UNIQUE TRAINING BENEFITS
2

UNIQUE TRAINING BENEFITS

Regular use of the Scout Hyper can provide safe traction, pressure/tension relief in the lower back, and strengthening of the posterior chain. “We spend hours sitting or standing at home, work or at school,” Louie Simmons says. “These simple yet everyday occurrences place significant pressure and torsion on our lumbar spine leading to mild or even severe daily discomfort. That's where the Scout steps in. A daily prescription of three to five sets of 15 reps on this machine could be the difference from painful to pain-free lumbar health.”

ASSEMBLY & SAFETY
3

ASSEMBLY & SAFETY

User assembly is required with this unit, but should take less than 30 mins. All required hardware is included. Rubber feet are provided for improved stability, and a rubber covering on the step makes it easier to get on and off of the machine. Please BE CAUTIOUS when folding and unfolding the Scout, and be aware of pinch points. If the red marking on the pop pin shaft is visible then the pin is NOT fully seated. Periodically check that the pop pin and swing-arm bolts are tight on both sides of the machine, as well as the bolt that secures the hyper strap.

Great Machine, Lots to improve
It's not news that reverse hypers are a great movement, but this one misses the mark. Even under moderate load the front lifts and "walks". Even a couple bumpers and 100lb sandbag didn't help very much. I've considered bolting a strap to the ground, but that would defeat the purpose of this unit's portability. The limited loading space has also quickly become an issue with increased strength.

Very sturdy
Very sturdy despite being mobile, the quality and feel of Rogue Fitness Products still remains. I've only started using it but can't wait to see the results with my low back!

Great except for this one thing....
Thing is clearly well made. I had a bad experience with the Rouge boneyard but seeing as I love Westside Barbell and wanted to have access to a reverse hyper, I decided to give them another shot. Out of the box, I felt like there was a lot of love that went into the design and updates of the product since the first version I saw on GGR. It definitely works and am so grateful to have it. My main issue with it is the provided strap is too short to get a full range of motion without slamming or rubbing your shins with a full sized plate. I fortunately have a Spud inc. belt squat strap that addresses the issue. But if I didn't I would have to buy another product which is frustrating. Other than that, it works as advertised and I'm grateful to have it.

Essential for lower back training and rehab.
After reading many positive reviews of people who had lower back pain and used the scout to help them deal with it and get stronger, I decided to get one for my home gym too. Having lower back problems myself (stenosis in L4 and L5) I decided to use the scout to help me get my lower back, back in shape as I've stopped deadlifts and other heavy back exercises due to my problem. So far I really like the sturdy build and overall quality (it does not rock back and forth at all) and I must admit it gives a pretty good pump to your lower back muscles after a few heavy sets. The stretch feels really good too. I'm 6'2 so getting on and off is pretty easy but shorter people can use it pretty easily too. The only negative is that if you're using bumper plates loading capacity is a little bit limited but sufficient nonetheless. I use it in nearly every workout and mostly on back and leg days, a few light sets, followed by a few heavier sets in the beginning and a few light sets at the end of the workout just for the stretch. I recommend it to anyone who's facing lower back problems or anyone looking to build a strong back as I can already tell the difference and see that it is going to help me very much in the days to come. All and all I am very happy with my purchase and the fact that it folds is just another really big plus.

Quick review
I have spondylolisthesis and 2 discs that herniate often. Avoiding surgery as long as possible. I’ve had it for about a week and perform it 3-4 times a week and I can feel and see the difference. Will I attempt to deadlift 600 again - no, but I can pick up loose change now

From crying in pain to FEELING STRONG
I was in desperate need of help. I have a bad disc herniation in my low back that would most likely require surgery. I ordered the reverse hyper scout and in a few days I've had serious relief. I'm working full duty again and not in constant pain. I recommend this for anyone who wants to try every avenue before going the surgery route. Also, regardless of back pain it's an amazing workout for the glutes that can be targeted with increased load on the back while in flexion. Thank you Louie Simmons. May you lift in peace!

Face Flushing
Its a quality piece of equipment and I like to support Louie Simmons who had a gym by the town I grew up near Venice Ca so glad to support. I am 6'2 and a little heavy in the mid section, have had 2 successful back surgeries and bought this reverse hyper to develop like the machine says " reverse strength" I have not graduated to using weights on the bar yet as just the mechanics of the machine are enough movement. (I am 63) One condition is that while positioned on the seat, hands held on to bars, I feel like all the blood rushes to my head and I flush out and get a headache while in use. I had watched the you tube videos and it looks much easier than I have experienced. This machine is easy to move around so I am taking it over to my local boot camp and putting it to the real test with others. Thanks Louie for the effort you put into the design.
