Product Description

While developing a design for a new Olympic bearing bar, Rogue had the privilege of working with the most decorated weightlifter of all time, three-time Olympic gold medalist Pyrros Dimas. The Greek legend laid out everything he would look for in an ideal barbell—including (a) a slightly more aggressive knurl, and (b) a more controlled spin that lets him feel connected to the weight throughout the lift. We provided him with bars made from different types of steel, multiple different knurl textures, and different sleeve lubricants. After lifting on all of them, he gave his feedback on each of the parameters, including which steel had the best whip. At the end of the day, we made a bar that combined all of his top picks. When we showed him what we’d come up with, his response was better than we could have imagined. “It's Perfect,” he said. “You should call it the Pyrros Bar.” And so we did.

Rogue Pyrros Bar - Stainless Steel WL Bar
Certified by the International Weightlifting Federation

The Pyrros Bar is now an official, IWF Certified barbell. The final design combines a stainless steel, 200,000 PSI tensile strength shaft with 10 quality needle bearings and a choice of chrome-plated or stainless steel sleeves (the all-stainless Pyrros Bar is the top-end 28mm barbell that Rogue now produces). The unique knurl texture on these bars was chosen unanimously by two members of the USA Weightlifting World Championship team, along with Pyrros himself, from a pool of six options. For the bearings, we selected a more viscous lubricant to create the controlled spin that Pyrros prefers.

In the strength world, approval from the International Weightlifting Federation is the equivalent of a restaurant getting its Michelin stars, so we’re proud to include a new IWF Cerakote logo on the shaft of the latest Pyrros Bars, along with additional IWF branding on the endcaps.

Note on Stainless Steel: Barbells made from raw steel are not plated and therefore marks from the machining process may be visible.

KEY FEATURES OF THE PYRROS BAR:

Pyrros Customization

Achieving the right knurl texture and a controlled spin were essential to creating a Pyrros-approved barbell. For the knurling, we experimented with several patterns before choosing a new, more aggressive style unanimously selected by Pyrros and two members of the U.S.A. Weightlifting team (a center knurl was also included by request). Creating the perfect knurl is as much art as it is science, so after gauging, each shaft is manually tested to ensure that the "feel" meets Rogue's standards. Similar attention is paid to the bar's precision needle bearings (made in Germany), five sets of which are included in each chrome sleeve. While the bearings produce a smooth and reliable spin, the use of a more viscous lubricant produced the spin that Pyrros was looking for, ensuring better stability of the weight during heavier lifts and more control for the athlete.

The Difference of Stainless Steel

. Personally selected by Pyrros and two members of the U.S.A. Weightlifting Team for its optimal "whip" and "flex," this stainless steel is the same type we originally developed for our world-record breaking Elephant Bar. With no plating, the knurl is left exactly how we machined it, providing a natural feel that is less reliant on chalk, with better corrosion resistance than bare steel. Customers can also now opt for stainless steel sleeves, rather than the standard chrome plating. The all-stainless Pyrros Bar, we feel, is the premier 28mm bar in our fleet. Please Note: Rogue recommends using a synthetic bristle brush, NOT a steel brush, to clean a stainless steel shaft. Steel on steel can cause rusting over time. See more tips here: Bar Care & Maintenance.

IWF Certified

The quality, precision engineering that goes into the Pyrros Bar has now been recognized at the highest levels of competition through its IWF certification. Each Pyrros Bar is machined in Columbus, Ohio (on American-made Haas machines) to strict IWF specs. The shaft is ground and polished prior to machining and individually tested and straightened to within 0.015” (0.38MM). Using a technique from automotive and aviation manufacturing, the sleeves are friction welded for a bond as strong as a single piece of steel, and then machined to our exacting standards. After machining, all parts are gauged to ensure optimum performance. In our barbell assembly department, the shaft is again tested and straightened and the components of each bar are weighed together. Once the weight standard of +20 grams/-10 grams is met, the bar is assembled by hand followed by an individual test for straightness and reliable spin.

A Legend's Input

A national hero in Greece, Pyrros Dimas owns three World Weightlifting Championships along with three gold medals from the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Olympic Games. He has few equals in the sport, so designing a barbell up to his standards was both a privilege and a great challenge. We’re proud to say we’ve produced a bar that Pyrros Dimas has personally called “perfect.”

A New Addition to Your Rogue Arsenal

Rogue offers a wide range of additional equipment and accessories to potentially combine with your Pyrros Bar. This includes our Competition Bumper Plates, Competition Collars, and exclusive barbell storage options.

F SCALE™

The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

OXIDATION RATE

The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Best Bar I've Used
I would like to say firstly, im not a Rogue Simp. I bought this approximately a year ago. I have about 5 other barbells including one other high end weightlifting bar, and this Barbell surpasses all the others. The knurl is perfectly aggressive. The whip is amazing. Well worth it. If I could only chose one barbell, this would be the bar.

Amazing Barbell
The knurling is amazing on this barbell. No chalk needed. Whip is amazing. I feel really connected to the bar when I do the oly lifts. I was using a Rep Gladiator Olympic Bar and the Pyrros is major upgrade. The only complaint I have is that one of the sleeve collars has a minor scratch when I received the bar but honestly the bar is going to get banged up and bound to have scratches on the sleeves so I ain’t gonna knock it down a star for such a minor cosmetic flaw. This bar is the best barbell I have in my garage gym and will be utilized every day I do the oly lifts. Rogue always got that amazing quality on point.

Beautiful and highest quality - but expensive
In all reality the value compared to something like the Ohio Bar - it’s not going to make a functional difference in your training if you know what you’re doing. I wanted the center knurl, and I wanted an aggressive stainless steel shaft. It is what it says it is, the best. But in terms of value I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to most people, this was a splurge for myself. I don’t regret it and will keep it, but just know that you can survive with the Ohio Bar haha.

Pyrros Bar Stainless
I wrote a review, but got an email to review. Overall very pleased with the Pyrros barbell with stainless sleeves. The product arrived as described. The minor cosmetic defects on knurling are in the product description for raw/bare metals. A quality tight knurling. And the sleeves could spin for days.

Top quality
Very happy with this bar. The whip is very good, the knurling is perfect for me, it's aggressive but not painful, just on the sweet spot. The controlled spin of the bar due to the viscous lubrication is nice, because you get the sensation of a not spinning bar, but under load the bar spins without any resistance. Also, with the bar overhead you felt it more stable because of this. Totaly recomended. If you want a top level weigthlinfting bar for years, this is a great choice.

Top of my bar rack
The Rogue Pyrros has become my go-to bar. I barely use my Elieko anymore, which is a shame. The Pyrros bar is very smooth. The rotation is great and doesn't sound like a box of scrap metal when you drop it, like some bars do. Very well made. Well done!

Great bar, aggressive knurling
I held one of these bars a couple times and immediately knew it was going to be the one I wanted to get. The spin is great, easy to turn but not too easy, and the knurling will keep your hands glued to the bar no problem. Just keep in mind, before you buy, that the knurling is really aggressive so you might need to wait until you have a little time for your hands to get used to it before you start using it regularly in training.
