Widely regarded as one of the most innovative specialty squat bars ever developed, Kabuki Strength’s adjustable Transformer Bar is also now proudly manufactured in Ohio by Rogue Fitness. Adjustable Angle

The Kabuki Transformer Bar is a unique, adjustable safety squat bar that allows athletes of all skill levels to hone a variety of squat movement patterns with much greater efficiency. The cambered pop-pin mechanism can be set at (6) different fixed positions separated by 30 degrees of variance, replicating each of these common squat movement patterns:

1. Hip Hinge: Good Mornings and teaching hinge patterning
2. Back Squat: Low Bar
3. Back Squat: High Bar
4. SSB: For using like a traditional Safety Squat Bar
5. Front Squat: Load Counterbalancing similar to a standard front squat
6. Goblet Squat: In style of a kettlebell goblet squat

Adjustable Difficulty

In any of those angle positions, the user can additionally adjust the “difficulty” setting of the lift via a second mechanism, which offers (4) different placement options for the weight sleeve (i.e., the distance between the center of mass of the weight and the bar on the lifter’s back).

  • Easier: Sleeve at Top of Bracket
  • Easy: Sleeve at Second Position from Top
  • Hard: Sleeve at Third Position from Top
  • Harder: Sleeve at Bottom Position

In total, the Transformer Bar creates 24 different setting combinations, giving large and small gyms alike an extremely versatile tool for changing loading and movement dynamics–whether for a full team of athletes or the evolving regimens of a select few. Once a setting is selected, the bar's longer handles and proprietary bend provide a balanced "center" that allows the lifter to comfortably focus on their form.

Note: The short and standard length handles options are included.

6 Fixed Squat Position Settings

The simple pop-pin mechanism of the Transformer Bar can be easily set at (6) different fixed positions separated by 30 degrees of variance. Each setting replicates a common squat movement pattern, including the Hip Hinge, Low Bar Back Squat, High Bar Back Squat, Safety Squat Bar, Front Squat, and Goblet Squat.

4 Difficulty Settings

Along with selecting the camber angle of the bar, users can also choose the positioning of the weight sleeve within a second bracket. This adjustment determines the distance between the center of mass of the weight and the bar on the lifter’s back, automatically increasing or decreasing the difficulty of the lift. The four options range from “Easier” (at the top of the bracket) to “Harder” (at the bottom), and the Rogue version comes with a new detent pin to help lock the sleeve into place. With 24 total setting combinations, the Transformer Bar is a particularly versatile training tool, whether for a seasoned lifter honing their form or a novice learning the movements.

New Proprietary Matte Black Finish

The Rogue version of the Kabuki Transformer Bar also introduces a new PMB finish on both brackets, as well as laser-etched markings to note the sleeve and pin position settings. Our Proprietary Matte Black finish utilizes a process that effectively transforms the surface of the steel rather than coating it, greatly increasing the brackets’ long-term corrosion resistance and color endurance.

Bad quality
Just received my Transformer bar and I’m very disappointed from the quality of this piece. Even though the package was delivered in perfect condition, the product itself was in a very bad shape. The sleeves are scratched all over the place (and no they can’t be wiped down with a piece of cloth since I’ve tried many times) leaving a bare metal, that has already began showing signs of rust. This proprietary matte black coating is very bad and Rogue needs to start listening, since so many people are complaining about it. Furthermore, the shaft is also scratched at various spots. Last but not least, the vinyl of the padding has some wrinkles while the foam at the same spots is compressed and deformed. For a bar that cost more than 1000€ delivered to my house I was expecting a product of high quality and craftsmanship rather than a bad quality blemished/boneyard bar from Rogue. Extremely disappointed from Rogue!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. These bars are fully tested before we ship them, so part of what you are seeing is features of our QC process where the pin is installed through the sleeve. We are happy to look into your concerns with the scratches on the shaft you mentioned and will be reaching out ASAP.

Versatile with few downsides
Wow! Just wow. This bar is an absolute tank! It is overbuilt and feels great in the hands and on the back! I have a decent squat, around 425 and my front squat is around 365. Although I still squat with a regular power bar, this Transformer has helped me out tremendously by alleviating pain in my lower back as well as my forearms when I front squat. The different positions are phenomenal. The SSB is very similar to a stand alone ssb bar and can’t imagine purchasing just an ssb bar when this bar is available! My only complaints are purely cosmetic. The sleeves mess up quickly. The changing pin scratches the metal very easily. And I’m not sure how long the pad will hold up. The stitching appears to be coming undone after only about one month. But the pad is very comfortable. Not sure if that is an issue though. It’s not enough to give this bar less than 5 stars! My only other complaint is the long handles. I love the short handles very much and don’t see myself changing them. The long sleeves are just too long! When I tried them out, they constantly hit my thighs. They are essentially useless. I hope Rogue comes out with some “medium” handles. Something in between. But overall, I’m so happy to have made this purchase! You won’t regret it!

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback! The markings you are seeing should be able to be wiped right off. We are happy to look into this further if this is not the case.

Overall a Little Disappointing
Overall, I am disappointed with the new transformer bar. Aesthetically It looks great. Very professional looking. I love the black and silver detailing. Unfortunately though, I am disappointed with the overall fit and finish of the bar. The tolerances on bar are not what I would consider tight. One side has a good amount of play in it after locking which causes the weight to noticeably shift part way through squats (this is especially noticeable when the sleeves are set on the hard setting-4). The other side is very tight and barely moves when locked. The sleeves have some scratching on them already either from shipping or just from assembling. One of the sleeves barely fit through when assembling and almost did not lock. The bar was also missing one of the endcaps when it arrived. It is a very neat concept for a bar, but in my opinion, you may wait to buy the transformer bar until after they work through most of the manufacturing bugs or go get a standard SSB.

Doesn’t aggravate my bad neck vertebrae
I have some bad neck vertebrae that a standard barbell aggravates. After testing it with 4 sets in each movement setting on the hardest difficulty setting, my neck felt fine! Legs were hammered after 24 total sets of squats! Well worth the money for me!

Kabuki Transformer
Overall this is a great bar that’s very well built. I’ve had the titan fitness ssb and the rogue fitness ssb and I would recommend the Kabuki built by rogue. The different settings is an easy and practical way to add variety to your leg training. It’s 45 lbs which I like and makes it lighter than the rogue ssb bar which is a tank. I’m giving it 4 stars because it did arrive with some scratches that I couldn’t wipe off. If you use it, it’s gonna get banged up, but still would rather not see that. The left shoulder pad sleeve also looks wrinkled, not sure if that’s normal. The right one is perfect.

Transformer Bar
I bought this bar because I wanted to upgrade my zinc one and I also wanted the added feature of having the option to use short handles. The short handles are dissapoonting because only your pinky can feel the knurling as you can see on the photo. The longer handles are the same as my older version but I don’t really like the feel of black powder coat on a knurl. It kinda dulls it. The knurling on the new one is more dull and not as aggressive as the older version so that was dissapointing. The shaft of this bar is black powder coated so it’s rougher and it easily scratches with your hand calluses or with any surface (even jcups/rollers). The all black on black is great. The pad fill thickness on both are the same, only difference is the pad material. I also wish they would’ve do the logo better like the older version and not just printed. I like that the numbers and settings are laser cut instead of a sticker.

Easily the best SSB available.
My favorite barbell by far. We’ll worth the wait and price $$$. Handle lengths are perfect for both the short and long ones. Use it for multiple workouts on leg day. Could not be happier don’t let the price tag deter you from owning the best safety squat bar available
