Rogue USA Aluminum Collars
Cerakote

Rogue’s durable, lockdown USA Aluminum Barbell Collars are now available in a range of exclusive Cerakote color finishes, which you can select from the options provided in the order menu. These 1.5” wide collars are made from the same advanced, aircraft-grade 6061 Billet Aluminum as our original anodized silver USA Collars (sold separately), and they’re compatible with any standard Olympic barbell sleeve.

Cerakote is a dynamic, ceramic-based coating first popularized in the gun industry for its remarkable wear-resistance even in thin applications. It’s also a finish that allows for greater versatility in color and design. In terms of functionality, all USA Aluminum Collars also include a nylon, lock-open lever with a snap flexure, enabling the user to fully open the collar for easier installation on the bar. An interior rubber lining helps to prevent any scuffs or friction as you train.

Stability and durability are vital for the high intensity weightlifter, and American manufacturing makes all the difference in delivering that consistency.

Durable Aluminum Construction

Just as precision American manufacturing creates a better barbell, it helps produce a stronger, higher-performance barbell collar, as well. Rogue USA Aluminum Collars are CNC machined using ultra-durable 6061 billet aluminum—a material that’s been used for years in the aeronautics industry. The Cerakote finish and precision, laser-etched Rogue branding complete the process.

Lock-Open Lever with Snap Flexure

Rogue USA Aluminum Collars are sold in pairs and measure 1.5” in width, making them compatible not only with Rogue barbells like the Ohio Bar and Bella Bar, but any standard Olympic bar and Oly plates in the industry. A unique lock-open nylon lever includes a snap flexure that fully opens the collar for easier installation and locks it down for reliable stability. An interior rubber lining protects both the collar and your bar from scuffs / friction.

Long Term Review - Not For Everyone
This review is a bit of a mixed one, so I’d suggest anyone considering these collars to read the whole thing and evaluate what your use case is. That being said, I’ve included a TLDR at the bottom. For reference, I’ve been lifting consistently for 10+ years, and have experience with a wide variety of bars, collars, specialty implements, etc. Given that I frequent commercial gyms, I bought a red pair of these a couple years back to keep in my gym bag for when provided collars become scarce. So, this can be considered to be more of a long-term review. In terms of build quality, these really are great; they’re durable and clamp firmly (and they look cool). I'm very confident using these when lifting heavy weight. I should note that one is tightened just slightly firmer than the other – a potential QA concern, though with a sample size of 2, it’s impossible to tell which one meets Rogue’s design spec. It’s at this point, however, that I highly suggest evaluating what your use case is. If you are buying for a home gym, and/or will be using these with only one or two barbells, I can safely recommend these. HOWEVER, be sure to confirm that these easily slide on and off (when unclamped) the barbell you’ll be using as soon as you get them. If you have to “shimmy” the collars along to get them on the bar, these are a pain in the rear end waiting to happen – hence the following paragraph. Meanwhile, if you, like I, frequent commercial gyms and are constantly going between different barbells with different manufacturing precision standards, I cannot recommend these collars. A good chunk of the time, these collars work well, and slide on and off various Olympic bars with relative ease. However, I did find that more often than I’d like, I’d have to do a bit of shimmying/wiggling to get the collars on, even when fully unclamped. Keep in mind that I’m still of course only using these collars for standard Olympic barbells, but various manufacturers can have different tolerances that make the bar sleeve diameters slightly different. Most of the time, I just chalked this up to being firm, high quality clamps. However, it didn’t occur to me until a recent incident that, with the way the collars are currently designed, any additional force required to get the collars onto the barbell is bringing the interior rubber lining to failure more quickly than you may hope. As you shimmy or push on the collars, the edges of the interior rubber liner will catch, and the adhesive between the aluminum collar and the liner will break down over time. Again, depending on your use case, the speed of this degradation will vary. For me, it meant that these collars only lasted a couple years of moderate use (not even every day, as again, these were bought as back-ups). The worst part is that when the rubber lining and associated adhesive do fail, the rubber can start to roll over itself and get caught when attempting to attach or remove the collars. On collars that are already quite tight, this catching of the rubber can make them nearly impossible to remove. And once again, if you’re in a commercial gym, odds are that you aren’t going to have the tools on hand to dismantle them. Thus, in my case, I had to mangle the collar that failed on me in order to get it off an Olympic bar. I’m confident that it wasn’t the bar’s fault, however, as I’ve used other (firm) clamps on the same bar before with no issue. If something similar does happen to you, hopefully you have sufficient weight on the bar, and the rubber liner catches far enough along the bar’s sleeve to allow you to use any plates you have on there as a battering ram against the collar (I’m sure I looked quite hilarious doing this). You can also try to torque/twist the collar off, though the catching rubber can also make this quite difficult. So, this brings us to discussing a potential solution, which is unfortunately less clear. I should note that this rubber liner (or adhesive) failure occurred on the tighter of my two collars. Thus, it is possible that, best case scenario, my other collar is closer to proper design spec and this boils down to a QA issue. I don’t quite believe that to be the case, however, as despite being marginally looser, I still have to shimmy my other collar along from time to time, and I imagine it too will eventually fail. This therefore brings me to the issue being a design flaw. A potential remedy could be recessing the rubber liner further into the collar channel in which it sits, so that the liner’s edges are better protected from lateral forces when sliding the collar on/off. Unfortunately, this may make it easier to scratch a barbell (which you may or may not care about) on the aluminum edges of the collar. Another solution would be slightly decreasing the tightness of the collars or increasing the throw of the lever to allow for an easier on/off process, but this again could have trade-offs with respect to the great clamping force for which these collars are known. The adhesive between the liner and collar could also be strengthened, but the existing adhesive already seems fairly strong, and I imagine such a change would only mask the problem. Thus, I’ll admit that a potential fix likely isn’t as straightforward as one would hope. TLDR – If you’re looking at these for a home gym and have one or two barbells that you always use, these are a great choice – just confirm that they slide on and off your barbells easily as soon as you have them, as these things are a pain when they fail. If you frequent commercial gyms and use a wide variety of barbells from different manufacturers, I can’t recommend these for long-term use.

Well made…but…
They seem way too tight with my Texas Power Bar, can barely get them to lock or unlock. Hope they loosen up over time.

Solid Clips
I've had these over a year and they still work like the first day I got them, some of the paint has come off but they are for made for lifting. The biggest issue you will have is not losing them. I take they to the gym with me every session and there has only been a hand full of times I left them when I first got them. Get used to packing them back up after you done and you'll be fine.

Great clips
Bought these clips a few weeks ago. Best clips out of many. A little pricy but needed something that would last me a while and worked great, especially for deadlifts.

High quality collars
After a couple months usage, I’m glad I got these collars. I use competition plates and regardless of the weights I use, this keeps the plates firmly in place. Makes lifting much quitter which my wife appreciates

Strong clamp, bad paint.
The clamps looks nice, fits well and closes very strong, but the color or coating worns out on the first day after a very moderate and carefull use. Should be anodized for the nearly 100€ that cost.
