While it’s inspired by a unique Olympic barbell design first developed by the Soviets, our Women’s 25mm Russian Bar is proudly manufactured in the USA.
The Russian Bar is distinct for its grooved sleeves and custom locking collars, making it ideally suited for multiple reps, with no need to tighten in between lifts. Starting in the 1960s, this streamlined design became the holy grail for many Oly lifters around the world, as import costs made it a legendary but rare sight outside the USSR. Even in the heart of the Cold War, many American athletes sought out the bar to emulate the elite Russian champions of the day. Articles in Ironman magazine touted it as an “outstanding piece of equipment” that “lifters are drooling for.”
Fortunately, we’re now able to build a Russian-style barbell right here in Ohio—at a higher quality than the originals, and at a far more reasonable price. The 15KG women’s version of the Rogue Russian Bar is manufactured from a minimum 200 KSI tensile strength steel and includes 5 needle bearings per sleeve. A set of specialized locking collars (not compatible with other bars) is included standard.

The sleeves of the Women’s Russian Bar are friction-welded and include 16 precision grooves, enabling the collars to slide onto the sleeve ratchet style, engaging with the grooves to securely lock the plates onto the bar. While this design was popularized by the Soviets several decades ago, it's rarely been duplicated since.
Once the collar is slid onto the sleeve, the user can make fine adjustments by spinning the inner portion of the collar to fully secure the plates. This makes slippage of the plates nearly impossible. As a result, the Russian Bar is ideally suited for multiple repetitions, as the design virtually eliminates the need to tighten in between lifts.
Machined and assembled in Columbus, Ohio, the 15 KG Russian Bar features a polished chrome, 25mm steel shaft with a minimum tensile strength of 200K PSI. The friction-welded sleeves have a bright chrome finish, with 12.5” of loadable length and ten quality needle bearings in total—producing a smooth, reliable spin. A single set of Olympic knurl marks are precision-machined with a firm but non-abrasive knurling pattern (there is no center knurl).
The Russian Bar is compatible with any standard Olympic plates, but if you’re choosing a top-performance barbell, you might as well select your plates accordingly. Rogue offers traditional steel Olympic Plates, as well as our Calibrated KG. A full line of durable bumpers is also available.
Your order ships with a special set of lock-in collars (2.5 KG each) designed exclusively for use with the grooved sleeves of the Russian Bar. These imported collars are made from cast iron and steel and feature a hard chrome finish. When tightened into position, they make any slippage of plates virtually impossible as you go through your full regimen.
The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.
The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.
