I have a son that is a two-time Texas High School State Powerlifting Champion, so he moves some serious weight around our home gym. As others have said, he uses the safety straps for most lifts, but does not really care for them during bench press. We got this pin and pipe set recently so he had a better option for various bench press exercises. I ordered the wrong size (43" and needed the 30"), but my company has a machine shop, so we easily cut everything down to the exact length we wanted, plus we kept the leftover pin pieces for additional band pegs. (bonus #1) The 1.5" steel pipes that go over the pins are great, but we added some 2" sacrificial PVC pipe outside of the steel pipe to protect the knurling on our Rogue bars, and to protect the steel pipe from our Kabuki bars! I also added some cheapo 1" bar clamps to the straight ends of the pin to prevent any accidental horizontal movement of the pin, preventing them from slipping out of the rack structure. Probably would not happen, but with 400+ pounds on the bar for bench press, you do not want to take any chances. Not sure about other folks saying they are hard to install?? I can put all of this stuff in the rack, move it around, or take it out super easy all by myself?? We store them along the very top of the rack (without the outer pipes) when not in use, and it gives my son another option for different exercises or stretches. (bonus #2) Not much to it, pretty basic stuff, but it does the intended job. Like all of our Rogue equipment, it is high quality and great stuff!

Do not recommend this. There are alternatives that are easier to use and can be handled by 1 person. They are difficult to maneuver because the tolerances are tight and it is hard to line up when inserting in the rack. Not to mention they are heavy as heck. You will need two people to take out and put back-in these pin and pipes.

I love saftey straps over pipes for all lifts except bench press. These pipe safties give a much more accurate height setting for benching in that there is no sag. I leave them set at benching height and use the straps for other lifts.

Absolutely love the rack!!!!!! Ordered wrong size pin and pipe safety set... needed 24 inch.. please advise how we can switch. Did I say absolutely LOVE the rack!!!

it's a pole. You put it in. It holds up your barbell from slamming into your chest

Not even Hercules could destroy these Pin and Pipe safeties. They will do the job. However, they are difficult to maneuver because the tolerances are tight and it is hard to line up when inserting in the rack. Not to mention they are heavy as heck. You will need two people to take out and put back-in these pin and pipes. If you plan on leaving them in the rack and never touching them, then they are great. Price is right, too.
