Concept2 BikeErg

The BikeErg is the latest innovation from the makers of the Concept2 Indoor Rower and SkiErg. Utilizing the same advanced engineering principles and PM5 performance monitor as those time-tested machines, the BikeErg is also lighter in weight than most stationary bikes and closer in feel to actual outdoor riding. The design is built around precision flywheel air resistance, creating a workout customized to any athlete who uses it. As you pedal harder, the intensity and challenge of the workout increases accordingly. At the same time, the inclusion of a clutch lets you freewheel like a standard bicycle, while a wide damper range re-creates the effect of changing gears.

The Concept2 BikeErg is portable, easy to assemble, and designed with an adjustable saddle and handlebars. Users can even decide to attach their own bicycle seat, handlebars or pedals (most styles are compatible) to create the ultimate custom indoor bike.

Rather than a chain, the BikeErg features high-strength, self-tensioning polygroove belts, greatly reducing the sound output and making set-up practical in any room of the house.

Concept 2 Warranty: Frame Parts - Five Year Limited Warranty / All Parts - Two Year Limited Warranty.

What Sets the Concept2 BikeErg Apart:

  • 1PM5 Performance Monitor

Included standard with the unit, the PM5 Performance Monitor offers a wide range of instant data feedback, including pace, watts, cadence (rpm) and calories. These statistics are then saved and stored automatically in the monitor’s memory or an optional USB stick. The PM5 has both Bluetooth and ANT+ wireless options, so you can connect to most wireless heart rate belts, as well as Concept2’s ErgData app and other third party apps. The PM5 takes two D-cell batteries and the power is generated by the flywheel when you ride, saving on battery life.

  • 2Flywheel & Damper

Like the Concept2 Rowers and SkiErg, the BikeErg uses air resistance generated by a fanned flywheel. This makes the machine directly responsive to your own output as you pedal. The inclusion of a special damper also re-creates the effect of shifting gears on a standard bicycle, as the user can alter the amount of air going into the flywheel. By changing settings, you can simulate the experience of a straightaway ride or a challenging uphill climb. The BikeErg is uniquely customizable to the skill sets and preferences of any athlete, regardless of size or experience.

  • 3Quality Construction + Easy Mobility

Few fan bikes can match the BikeErg for precision engineering, durability, and convenient portability. Set-up takes just a matter of minutes, and the unit’s lightweight welded aluminum frame + a set of caster wheels make it uniquely mobile for a so-called “stationary” bike. The use of self-tensioning polygroove belts also greatly reduces the sound output of the bike, making it a viable option for any room in the house.

  • 4Adjustable & Customizable

The BikeErg is designed with an adjustable saddle and handlebars, which can be moved both up-and-down and forward-and-back into a custom, secure setting. Users can even decide to attach their own bicycle seat, handlebars or pedals (most styles are compatible) to create the ultimate custom indoor bike.

  • 5Part of the Concept2 Family of Ergometers

Backed by Concept2’s nearly 40 years as a leading American fitness equipment manufacturer, the BikeErg is a worthy upgrade over an existing stationary bike or a logical addition for a gym already equipped with the popular Concept2 Rower and SkiErg. These machines are all built to last and utilize the same flywheel technology and advanced monitor system to give any athlete an efficient, consistent training experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only review you'll need If you want your legs to burn, if you want your lungs to cry out then do yourself a favor and buy it! Don't even question it and just buy it. This is honestly a Rogue Echo bike on steroids (it doesn't look it) but you can't question the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Was skeptical when it first came out... ...but now I am a believer. I had initially thought that the BikeErg would fall through simply because there are plenty of other stationary bike options, but I was wrong. I thought to purchase it for a few reasons (1) the brand: we owned a Concept2 Rower a few years back and in terms of quality it was second to none. (2) the ease of use: the problem we had with the rower was that it was difficult (psychologically) to just jump on the machine and do a quick session. One had to pay attention to form and the intensity of the workout formed something of a mental obstacle to quick workouts. Not so with the BikeErg. You can just jump on real quick as your passing by without any sense of dread—and once you start working out, if you're like me, you tend to go hard even if you did not initially intend to. It happens naturally. I was also looking at the Rogue Echo, but opted for the BikeErg because I wanted something that my wife and I could use without that psychological obstacle. We probably would have used the Echo for a week or two before neglecting it in the garage. We've had the BikeErg for about two weeks now and have put it to use daily. It makes working out so easy and fun. The bike is well built and Concept2 is an excellent company to deal with—they stand by their products. I have so far had to contact them for an issue, and I got an email in less than 24 hours and was on the phone with Concept2 with a solution by the next morning. We knew, based on re-selling our Concept2 row machine that if we didn't like the bike we'd be able to sell it right away, so it was really a low-risk investment and it certainly has been paying off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! So happy with my purchase. Very smooth wheels and easy to move around. Easily adjustable seat and handle bar. Hubby put the bike together for me and found it fairly easy to do. Great for any type of workout - distance vs WODs. I am able to (carefully) bring it down two small steps and wheel out the back door for when I do my workouts outside. Very sturdy and well made, looks like it will last long.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best machine ever Gym closed due to covid. We've been doing a daily cardio for 4 years so absolutely needed a home machine. Treadmills are bulky, ellipticals bulkier so we chose bike. This one requires a floor space under 3x5, can be rolled around, has a belt transmision not a chain, is built like a tank and does not break and offers incredibly challenging workouts as well as ability to upload them online, rank them against peers worldwide, participate in virtual challenges and get certificates which makes workouts fun. We are very happy with it and have been biking 30k a day on average since we received it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 months later… It has been almost 5 months, 1.4 million meters/860 miles, over 50 hours of ride time and I couldn’t be happier with my BikeErg! I have been tweaking the fit and also made a couple of changes since my first review. The first is replacing the saddle with a Selle Italia Turbo saddle, which you can see in one of the attached pictures. While the padding on the original saddle is very comfy, I opted to go with a different one for two reasons. One, the original saddle felt a bit bouncy to me and two, I wanted a saddle with an upsweep on the tail, which the original one doesn’t have. While changing the saddle I also realized that I needed to make a correction to my original review. The black cap at the top of the seatpost where the saddle sits does allow you to adjust the tilt angle, which I didn’t think was possible before. Ridges inside that piece allow you to set the step angle for the front and rear of the cap independently to change the tilt of the saddle. There is actually a video on the Concept 2 YouTube channel titled Concept2 BikeErg Tips: Saddle Adjustment, which explains this. I have also been using ErgData for the last couple of months to immediately upload ride results. I had an old iPhone 6 sitting in a drawer, which is now dedicated full time for this purpose as you can see in one of the attached pictures. The other benefit of this, which I absolutely love, is that the Concept 2 data can be linked to the Garmin Connect app for my watch and as soon as that upload from ErgData is finished it shows up on the app with a really nice graphical analysis of your ride. I’ve also attached a couple of screenshots of the Web page and phone app showing the results of my sprint workout today. If you are considering one of these I would highly recommend it. Rod
